Media Converter 1.42 update

After some feedback from folks and good tips, I updated the resolution settings for media converter just a little bit.

640x384 resolution is now set to 13 fps. It's a bit low, I know, but it doesn't drop frames. If you want to, just edit the resolutions txt and change the rate to 14 or 15.

I added a new resolution of 480x288. It's splendid looking and runs at 18 fps without frame drops. Thus, it's a very nice balance between good looking video and smooth playback.

Also, there is a wicked 800x480 resolution for mplayer users, mainly for those videos that need to look just picture perfect.

It seems that bit rate affects the default player a bit, thus you get a bit smoother playback at 512 kbps than at 768 kbps.

  2. Well, I still get completely whacky screen distortions, even with this latest release (which still advertizes itself as 1.40 on screen and doesn't show the resolutions you mention). I just tried to encode Casino Royale without cropping and the Media Player served my a 4:3 aspect squished Bond movie.

    Strangely, in Mplayer the aspect ratio is exactly as it should be: widescreen letterbox format with black bands top and bottom, but Mplayer still gives me too many stutters to be a good replacement for Media Player.

    Just to make things clear, this is what I mean by a correct conversion:

    - without cropping, the Media Player should show the entire image on screen, without distortions and with added black bands top-bottom or left-right, according to the aspect of the image;

    - with cropping, the entire screen should be filled with the image, again without distortions, but this time with portions of the image clipped off top-bottom or left-right.

    I'm now wondering, if I install Media Converter without first deleting the old version, whether it really does update. It's kinda weird that an update you made specifically to undo the distortion problems, should still show them.

  3. Great job. I would also like to see the ability to not crop or stretch 4:3 vids, so they just have black bars on the sides.
